In this FAQ, we answer frequently asked questions about accessibility in the d.vinci application process and explain which tasks are your responsibility. More information can be found in the main article: What is accessibility?
1. Basics
What does d.vinci provide for accessibility by default?
d.vinci ensures accessibility in the application process according to WCAG 2.1, Level A. This includes screen reader usability, full keyboard navigation, visible focus indication, clear error messages, and content scalability up to 200% without information loss.
Accessible and technically prepared are:
- Iframe job list
- Job posting
- Application questionnaire
- Job list from version 2
What do you need to do to achieve WCAG 2.1 Level AA?
Compliance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA largely depends on the design of your career page and job posting (fonts, colors, images) and is your responsibility.
Main tasks:
- Check color contrasts: e.g., 4.5:1 for body text
- Provide alt texts: For all images you upload
- Label your own fields: Clear, understandable labels
- Use clear language: e.g., explain technical terms and avoid internal abbreviations
- Email templates: Ensure accessible attachments and structured content
2. Technical Implementation
Are texts and controls usable with screen readers?
Yes. All areas developed by d.vinci and not customizable by customers are implemented to be usable with screen readers. You should additionally check your own customizations.
Can the application questionnaire be fully operated via keyboard?
Yes. The application questionnaire can be used without a mouse – including filling out, uploading files, and submitting.
Testing tip: Go through the application process once without a mouse. Can you reach and fill out every field? Is the focus visible?
Can content be scaled up to 200% without information loss?
Yes. Content can be used up to 200% without information loss.
Are there time limits for submitting applications?
There are no hard-coded, form-internal timeouts when filling out the application questionnaire. The session timeout is 30 minutes since the last user activity.
Does the application portal work with common browsers and assistive technologies (screen readers, voice control, Braille displays)?
Browser compatibility:
- Overview of supported browsers: Supported browsers / compatibility
Assistive technologies:
- Most accessibility tests were conducted using the screen reader functions of common smartphones (e.g., iOS VoiceOver). Systematic tests with specialized tools for voice control and Braille displays have not yet been conducted.
- We focus on semantic structures, clear focus indication, and ARIA hints to provide a solid foundation for assistive technologies.
Is the CAPTCHA available in the d.vinci application questionnaire accessible?
No. Only a visual CAPTCHA is available. The decision to use it is yours – please consider the possible barriers.
3. Content & Design
Who is responsible for sufficient color contrasts?
You are responsible for ensuring color contrasts (e.g., 4.5:1 for body text) on your career page, in the application portal, in your job postings, in the application questionnaire, and in surveys – where these colors are controlled by the layout or the job list.
Recommended testing tools:
- contrast-ratio.com
- Lighthouse (Chrome DevTools)
- WAVE (Browser plugin)
Are alternative texts (alt texts) for images, buttons, and icons supported?
Yes. For content you create, we provide fields for entering alt texts. All other elements not configurable by you (e.g., logo in the layout) are provided with suitable alternative texts by us.
Are fields in forms clearly labeled and structured?
Yes. For standard fields, d.vinci ensures clear labeling and structure. For fields you create, you are responsible.
Are incorrect inputs in the application questionnaire explained clearly?
Yes. Error messages are described textually and not only recognizable by color or symbol.
Are help texts or plain language used in the process?
We provide supportive filling instructions for selected fields (e.g., during file upload).
If you can add your own help texts, their maintenance and quality are your responsibility.
Is the language in the application portal in German easily understandable?
The texts are maintained by you; the comprehensibility of these texts is therefore your responsibility.
Does the d.vinci application portal support multiple languages?
Yes. Content can be published in multiple languages.
- German and English: Always possible – unless you have deactivated one of the standard languages.
- Additional languages: Available with corresponding booking
- Translations: Are your responsibility
Documents and email attachments (PDFs/templates)
Accessible email attachments and your own templates/PDFs are your responsibility. We provide a digital form (questionnaire) for the structured query of additional information.
4. Testing & Evidence
How do I test my career page and job postings for accessibility?
Recommended tools:
- Lighthouse (Chrome DevTools) – Automated checks
- WAVE (Browser plugin) – Visual representation of issues
- contrast-ratio.com – Contrast testing
Notes for your own tests & feedback
- Conduct your own compatibility tests with your target environment (browser, operating systems, possibly official standard assistive technologies).
- Short feedback questions on the confirmation page (e.g., screen reader behavior, keyboard navigation, contrasts) have proven effective for gathering hints from applicants.
Does d.vinci provide a general testing protocol?
No. A general testing protocol is not provided, as design elements controlled by you (colors, fonts, images) influence the evaluation. Additionally, it depends on how you embed our job postings on your homepage. All elements developed by d.vinci that cannot be customized by you as a customer have been tested in practice using appropriate tools (e.g., contrast tools, screen readers).
Testing service: We offer a testing service for accessibility to jointly review your d.vinci application pages and discuss open issues. Contact us for this.
Should we use additional website plugins for accessibility?
We advise against it. Additional plugins can create additional barriers or conflict with system assistive tools. Applicants typically use the integrated tools of operating systems and browsers.
5. Product Documentation & Support
Accessibility and compatibility features
The accessibility and compatibility features of the d.vinci application portal are described in the product documentation here in the Help Portal and their usage is explained. The Help Portal provides relevant information centrally.
Accessible documentation
The product documentation is provided in a web format and is thus available in an electronic format that meets the requirements of web-based access. Access is via the Help Portal, where we are currently located.
Information on accessibility and compatibility features
Support services provide information on the accessibility and compatibility features mentioned in the product documentation. Content on accessibility is available in the d.vinci Help Portal and is continuously consolidated.
Release and improvement process
Feedback on impairments is systematically recorded, evaluated, and promptly considered in upcoming releases. Prioritization regularly includes new functionalities as well as the correction of errors and the improvement of accessibility.
6. Legal & Delimitation
Biometrics – Are biometric procedures used?
No biometric procedures are used in the d.vinci application process and application portal. This applies to the components provided by d.vinci, including the iframe job list, job posting, application questionnaire, and widget/job list from version 2. The optionally usable visual CAPTCHA serves to prevent misuse and does not capture biometric features.
Internet and communication technology (ICT) with bidirectional voice communication
The d.vinci application portal does not provide integrated voice or video communication functions; interactions are web-based and text-oriented. Requirements from this ICT area (e.g., audio bandwidth, real-time text/RTT, combined speech/text, visual audio displays, interoperability, and video criteria) are therefore not applicable to the portal.
